TITLE: Director of Family Ministries

Principal focus:

This is a ministry-enabling position that supports Albert Lea United Methodist Church’s Mission to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. Our values, in order, are caring, worship, faith-building, kids, youth, and growth in all areas. We have chosen to move from two half-time positions (children’s director and youth director) to this newly created position. Both programs have solid programming in place for building a bigger program. The church has made great progress in being outward-focused in recent years. 

The Children’s Program offers Sunday morning and Wednesday night programs. Outreach events include the Easter Egg Hunt (over 300 kids attends this event), Trunk and Treat (over 500 people attend this event), and Summer Camp (Vacation Bible School). A solid group of adults are involved in the Children’s Program.

The Youth Program does many activities, including mission trips and small groups. A solid history of fundraising is in place to help support this ministry. 

RELATIONSHIPS: Employees in this position are responsible to the Staff–Parish Relations Committee. Ongoing supervision is by the Pastor.

HOURS: This is a salaried position for 33 hours a week, but for the correct candidate, it can be a full-time 40-hour-a-week job. We want the correct person and can be flexible.

Regular Duties:

  • Be the leader of leaders to build teams—not a person who does everything, but a big picture person.
  • Develop and coordinate the Sunday Christian education program for children three years old through grade 12. 
  • Oversee the nursery program for children not in Sunday School.
  • Ensure the completion of required annual training and background checks for all volunteers and staff within the ministry. 
  • Advocate for the involvement of children in the life ministry and mission of this congregation.
  • Develop Christian curriculum, teaching strategies, and budget; purchase and maintain materials and supplies for Sunday education programs. 
  • Coordinate the Christmas programs and any other special children’s programs as needed. 
  • Recruit and train volunteer support networks needed for Sunday School and other special programs.
  • Attend regular staff meetings.
  • Conduct relational ministry by being actively involved with the youth and their families.
  • Share the vision of the youth program with the entire community of Albert Lea. 
  • Develop student discipleship ministries, including small groups.
  • Recruit, train, and nurture leaders/volunteers.
  • Plan and lead “Impact Events” with leadership team.
  • Liaise with youth council to guide direction of youth ministry.
  • Be responsible for HS/MS weekly programming. 
  • Be responsible for Confirmation.
  • Plan a mission trip or camp experience each summer.
  • Raise funds for and plan all HS/MS youth programming.
  • Be responsible for all youth program communications.
  • Help other members of ALUMC staff as directed by the Senior Pastor. 
  • Success will be determined by the number of MS/HS youth and adult volunteers involved in the ALUMC youth ministry.
  • Additional duties will be assigned by the Senior Pastor.

Skills and requirements:

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher.
  • Working knowledge of using a computer to modify and edit digital pictures.
  • Excellent cross-functional communication skills.

Specific

  • To direct and coordinate all music for the contemporary and traditional services. The church holds two worship services during the school year and one during the summer months
  • Direct the Sanctuary choir during the school year
  • Direct the woman’s group Faithtones during the school year
  • Attend regular staff meetings.
  • Supervise all other music staff.
  • Coordinate schedule with office manager and pastor including funerals, weddings and other events involving music.
  • Insure that musical equipment is maintained in good working order
  • Create media using Mediashout for worship services
  • Create two different praise band teams
  • Create a team of volunteers to run media on Sunday morning
  • To perform additional duties as necessary in coordination with supervisor and SPRC.

COMPENSATION: Is based on experience and average of 25 hours per week, With more in the school year and less in the summer months.

EVALUATION: The Pastor will conduct an annual evaluation with input from the SPRC committee.

Staff Position Description

TITLE:  CHANCEL CHOIR ACCOMPANIST – Apply to jobs@albertleachurch.org

RELATIONSHIPS:  Employees in this position are responsible to the Staff Parish Relations Committee and work under the supervision of the Music Director.

HOURS:  as necessary to fulfill responsibilities Hours per week will depend on the needs of the Chancel Choir. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

General:  The Accomanist will:

  1. Provide accompaniment for the Chancel Choir, including:
  2. Performance on Sunday mornings according to a schedule established by the Music Director.
  3. Performance at special services which may include Lenten Services, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Thanksgiving, Christmas eve, and others as included in the church schedule;
  4. Preparation for and attendance at weekly rehearsals;
  5. Preparation for and attendance at additional rehearsals which may be needed to support the full choral program of the church.
  6. Accompany soloists and small groups for special music as needed including weekly small Group woman’s group Faithtones and two concerts a year. 
  7. Perform additional duties in keeping with the position as mutually agreed upon with the Music Director.

COMPENSATION:  This position is a flat rate per event, session or date.  Salary and other benefits will be detailed in the Employment Agreement.

EVALUATION:  The Staff-Parish Relations Committee will conduct an annual evaluation with input from the Chancel Choir Director.
